What is relational poverty?
Relational poverty refers to a lack of meaningful, supportive relationships in a person’s life. This can include a lack of friends, family connections, or community ties, leading to feelings of isolation and loneliness.
Higher rates of poverty and homelessness
Without strong social networks, individuals are more likely to experience financial instability and poverty. They may lack access to emergency financial assistance or advice on managing finances. Relational poverty can contribute to homelessness, as individuals without supportive relationships are less likely to find temporary housing with friends or family during times of financial crisis.
What causes relational poverty?
Relational poverty can arise from various factors, including geographical isolation, cultural or societal barriers, personal circumstances, or life transitions like moving to a new city, losing a loved one, or experiencing a relationship breakdown.
